An alarming work-family scenario in Australia (And why Aussies should prioritize family vacation)
Australia emerges as a top high-income country with its citizens working for long hours, including weekends – at the price of a deteriorating family life.
Mike Steketee of news.com.au writes that “two million Australians worked on Sundays and on average they did so for almost a full day.” Add to that are the statistics indicating that the Australia work force combines long average working hours (7pm- 7am), great amount of casual work, plus the increasing trend in irregular hours of labor.
This kind of work culture has made a negative impact on today’s Australian family life and health. Reports from the Relationships Forum Australia explain that the favorable economic level enjoyed by Australians comes at the price of strained family relationships and poor health among parents and children. Australians confirm that long working hours and the amount of work on weekend do really have an effect on personal life.
Evidence of these are the increasing instances of divorce and separation, signs of physical aggression among toddlers whose parents take part in this kind of work culture, and depression experienced by working parents.
While it is imperative that government do something about the policies to maintain the welfare of its labor force (and their families), it is the responsibility of parents, as well to take charge in protecting their families from such kind of harsh scenario.
There is no such thing as “no time”. There is always time, one just have to make time for the more important things in life. It’s all a matter of priority. Prosperity and professional success are good. But these do not simply amount to anything when you fail at home, and your family suffers.
With the
natural beauty of Australia, it’s a surprise that people do not take the time to indulge in its vacation surprises. Vacation with the family promotes bonding and improves parent-child relationship. It de-stresses the mind and body, thus allowing one to focus more on the more important things that needs to be attended to.
There is so much that Australia has to offer aside from long working hours. Sundays are for the family. Start healing the strained ties by going on a travel vacation. Sydney and the rest of the country (except Cairns this season) are ripe to be vacation destinations. A lot of
budget hotels in Sydney, and
Sydney apartments guarantee a memorable stay for your family.
Touring the family and having a good time together can be a first step in renewing what was lost all this time. After all, your
family is the main reason for that hard work.

The Gays of Sydney
People from conservative nations will surely be in awe of not just the height of tolerance over Sydney’s gay community, but also the lavish and glorious event of the New Mardi Gras. It has been successful in promoting the rights of gays and lesbians in the world. If it ain’t so, it wouldn’t be a world-renowned event.
Take on some history check?
Where did all these gays and lesbians come from?
June 24, 1978 marks the Stonewall Riots. During that period, homosexuality was a crime in New South Wales until 1982. The Stonewall event was actually a protest march with license but the police revoked it. Many people were discriminated by the community, and more even lost their jobs since being gay was a social taboo then.
In 1979, the event was held again. This time it was changed into “Sydney Gay Mardi Gras”. From then on gay parades and post-parties in commemoration of the event became the tradition.
So now we know it’s a shout of the gay community for social acceptance.

I wonder if that fight still rings a bell. The New Mardi Gras seems to me more like a festive celebration of human nature, that it appeals to not just the gays and the lesbians, but to everyone else regardless of your sexual orientation. Well, no doubt you can see the talent of the gays. What with their flamboyant costumes and grand funky floats, you can tell how marvelous they are… and yeah how colorful their personalities seem to be!
Gays in Sydney are blessed to be among the most accepted group of their kind in the world. Sydney, as a city is tolerant and accepting of this sector of society. I believe they do enjoy equal rights in job opportunities, and other social dealings. And of course, everyone’s got the right for true love.
The gays of Sydney are fortunate to celebrate their unique individuality without their neighbors frowning upon them. Can you just imagine the political struggle it will take if we bring their gay parade to conservative lands? There might be any color at all…
Sydney is truly a beautiful city – aesthetically, and politically.

What People Think of Australia?... and why I love my home!
I was googling for the topic: what people think of Australia, and stumbled over
Yahoo answers.
I guess for most travel enthusiast, they’d long to know the people and the best tour spots of the destination. As an Aussie, I feel proud about this comment. As a traveler, it makes Australia truly interesting…

| Australians are so heartwarming people, maybe because Australia is warm.
Australia is a great place to be. It has 2 of the wonders of the world. The Uluru (Ayers Rock), which is the largest known rock in the world and, The Great Barrier Reef, the largest coral reef in the world.
|
Since I’m having this down on a Valentine’s day, let me spell out my great love for the land down-under.
Now, why do I love Australia?Love note #1:This summer is just perfect to pack your bags and plunge into Aussie waters. Australia offers lots of beautiful beaches and coastlines. When I feel like going out from Sydney, I head straight to Forster. There’s this
Forster luxury apartment there perfectly situated near the
Main Beach, Wallis Lake, and the less populated Pebbly Beach.
It’s real
quality accommodation in Forster, just right for the family and even small to large groups.
I’ve landed on this
Aussie travel and accommodation portal that featured
El Lago Resort as a prime tourist destination. Well, who wouldn’t want to refuse the waters this summer? It’s definitely a treat for those going for a
vacation in Central Coast, Australia.
Love note #2:Now the gateway to most of Australia’s coastal resorts is
Brisbane. For adventure start-ups, I think the Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary is fantastic! You’d have to take the river cruise to reach the place. For nature lovers, the Botanic Gardens should be part of the itinerary. It’s a shady reserve at the south of the city. You can check out for your
Brisbane accommodation at
Central Brunswick Hotel Apartments. It’s a hotel near several restaurants, cafes, shops in cosmopolitan Brisbane.
Love note #3:For more rugged adventures, try
Blue Mountains and its series of cliffs and its world-renowned Greater Blue Mountains Area World Heritage. I love the uniqueness of the area coz it’s actually a plateau surrounded with mountains. Just have no idea why they’re called Blue. Hehe! For travelers wishing to visit the beauty of this side of Australia, I highly recommend
St. Mounts Boutique. It’s got landscaped gardens, plus a breathtaking view of the upper Blue Mountains. Service is excellent –
Blue Mountains accommodation at its best!
Love note #4:When things get busy in your travel, take on that short route north of Forster – that’s Taree, Australia. Here you find a pleasantly rural sanctuary for the weary traveler –
Cundle Motel. It is
budget accommodation in Taree.
Cundle Motel in Australia is a quiet retreat, plus an easy access to the town’s recreational activities and water sports. Taree is known for the Mannning River.
Love note #5:Australia breathes cool, fresh air in the
Snowy Mountains during summer in Cooma, Australia. This place is really awesome! And most hotels here are
well-priced accommodation. A traveler gets to choose from a line of
budget to deluxe motels in Cooma. Try
Sovereign Inn Cooma.
Love is not love without its origins. And I’ll forever be thankful for having my roots in Australia. The beauty of the land is enough to make a traveler fall in love with it.
Nothing is really sweeter than
home sweet home.
